Verizon Wireless got into trouble for not being honest about the real cost of their phone plans. They didn’t tell people about extra fees, so the plans were more expensive than what they advertised. People sued Verizon and won $100 million.
The ad was misleading because it didn’t show the full price. A lawsuit was likely filed to protect consumers from being tricked and to enforce advertising rules.
Verizon Class Action Settlement Details
Verizon will give $100 million to customers who were charged too much. This money will be divided among the customers who were overcharged.
The two parts of the payment are:
A fixed amount of $15 for each valid claim. An extra amount of up to $85 for customers who were charged the administrative fee. This extra amount is $1 for each month they were charged.
Each customer can only get a maximum of $100. How much they actually get depends on how many claims they have that we think are real and how long we charged them for administrative fees.
Eligibility Criteria
To get the settlement money, customers need to have been using Verizon for wireless or data services on a postpaid plan from January 1, 2016, to November 8, 2023. They also need to have been charged the extra fees that are being questioned.
