Objectives of UGC Girl Child Scholarship For PG Courses
The plan aims to help single female students studying for postgraduate degrees and to remind everyone about the importance of family planning.
To apply, you must go to the National Scholarship Portal after the application period starts, which will be announced on the UGC website. Every year, 3000 new scholarships will be given directly to the students’ bank accounts.
Benefits of Girl Child Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme
The government will offer 3,000 new scholarships each year to students pursuing postgraduate studies. These scholarships will be worth Rs 36,200 per year and will be paid directly to the students’ bank accounts.
There won’t be any extra money given to cover things like dorm fees and medical costs.
Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Scholarship for Girls
- Applicants must hold Indian citizenship.
- If you are a woman and the only female child in your family, you may be eligible.
- Women without brothers or those who have a twin or fraternal sister are invited to apply.
- Candidates should be under 30 years of age when commencing their first year of a postgraduate program.
- Students must be in their first year of a full-time Master’s degree program at a recognized university.
- Applicants should be engaged in non-vocational academic courses and must attend physical classes at an accredited institution.
- Distance learning students are not allowed to apply.
The policy has some rules about who can get the scholarship. It doesn’t cover students who are doing a master’s degree by studying online from home. Also, it doesn’t cover students from universities that don’t get money from the government. And if a family has both a boy and a girl, only the boy can get the scholarship.
Documents Required for UGC PG Scholarship for Girls
To be provided by the Student
- UIDAI Aadhaar Card.
- A document that proves you are enrolled in a recognized Master’s degree program at a university in India that is approved by the University Grants Commission.
- Joining report (according to the template provided in Annexure-I).
- A formal statement stating that I am the only daughter in my family.
- Bank Account Passbook (duplicate copy).
- Certificate of Birth or Secondary Education Completion Certificate.
To be provided by the Institution
- After the first year is over, schools must give a report that shows how much progress the students have made, using their test scores as a percentage.
- After the first year is over, the school must give proof that they used the money correctly.

- Once the application period starts and the UGC website announces it, you can apply for the scholarship on the National Scholarship Portal.
- The school the applicant goes to needs to confirm that the online application is real.
- Schools that accept students into their first year of graduate programs shouldn’t charge female students tuition for their studies.
